DAWID GRENDA

Dawid Grenda was born in Wieruszów, Poland in 2002. His journey with music began at the age of 10, when he attended private piano lessons. In 2015, he enrolled at the Stanisław Moniuszko State Music School in Bielsko-Biała. There he met Grażyna Krzanowska, composer and harmony teacher, who gave him composition lessons and introduced him to his current composition teacher, Marcin Bortnowski, at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, Poland.

At present, Dawid is inspired by such figures as Iannis Xenakis and Gérard Grisey – hence his interest in stochastic, algorithmic and spectral music. His music is also heavily inspired by STEM sciences; his works have been created on the basis of certain physical models (ranging from classical and quantum physics to Einsteinian General Relativity).

Dawid’s major achievements include the main prize in the 64th Tadeusz Baird Composition Competition for Young Composers (Kraków, Poland) for a composition called qualia, and first prize in the 4th and 5th International Composition Competition “New Music Generation” (Astana, Kazakhstan) for a-tomos and qualia. Compositions by him have been performed on numerous occasions, including the premiere of limen at the 11th Musica Electronica Nova (Wrocław, Poland) and qualia at the 36th Kraków International Festival of Composers.
