Luca Vago (b. 1971) lives near Milan and works as a lawyer at the Tribunal of Lecco in Italy. He graduated in composition in 2004 and in 2007 completed a higher degree as a pupil of Alessandro Solbiati at the Conservatory G. Verdi in Milan. In December 2005 his composition Shining Darkness for chamber orchestra won the first prize in the Conservatory’s annual composition competition, and two years later, he won the first prize for composition in the Settimane Musicali di Stresa composition in Italy. He was one of the finalists in the Ensemblia 2009 competition in Monchengladbach (Germany) with the string quartet Karštas Sniegas, and in the same year, his Catnus Eburneus got a mention in the 36th Guido D’Arezzo composition competition in Italy. In May 2011, he won the first prize in the Franz Liszt composition competition in Weimar, for a piece for piano and orchestra called Aušrine. In 2012, he was a finalist in the So.Ro.Dha competition in Antwerp, for a work entitled Sonetto onirico. In 2013, he received another mention, this time in the Franco Evangelisti competition, and came third in the Sincronie for Gesualdo competition with Languisce al fin. Music by Vago has been performed by many renowned artists at a number of festivals. His works are published by Rai Trade Musical Edition.
