Axel Ruoff

Born in Stuttgart/Germany, Axel Ruoff (b. 1957)  studied composition, music theory and piano in Stuttgart and Kassel with Milko Kelemen, Rolf Hempel and Erhard Karkoschka. Following a Monbusho scholarship for the National University for Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo, he was invited as guest professor to teach at several universities throughout Japan. Since 1992 he has been Professor of Music Theory and score studies, was Vice-Dean 2006–2010, and since 2010 has been Dean and Head of the Church Music Department at the National University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. He has received numerous awards and prizes, won several competitions and a number of commissions. He regularly participates in major national and international festivals.

 

Axel Ruoff has composed operas, oratorios, orchestral works, choral and chamber music and a large volume of organ music. Many works by him are available on CD.
