Alexander Muno, born in Germany in 1979, studied composition with Tobias PM Schneid, Theo Brandmüller and Heinz Winbeck, as well as musicology, art history and philosophy. In winter 2006/2007 he received a grant from the Bavarian State to work for six months at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. He has been the winner of several prizes, among them the Förderpreis der Ernst von Siemens Foundation in 2006, the Bavarian Arts Prize in 2007, and the Paul Hindemith Prize (2nd Prize). He was a finalist in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels and the Premio Reina Sofia Competition in Madrid.

He has received commissions from such festivals and institutions as Young Euro Classic Berlin, the Heidelberg Spring, the Kissinger Summer, the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bavarian State Opera and the Heidelberg Theatre.
